Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County dedicates 10th home


Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County celebrated the completion of its 10th home and its new owners during a dedication ceremony Nov. 4, 2018.

The new home is located at 416 S. Vine in Maryville.

Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County named Chandra White, a single mother of two children, as its latest partner at the conclusion of an application process earlier this year. Construction on the three-bedroom home began last spring, and White is purchasing the home with a zero-interest loan.



Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County is a non-profit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and invites people from all walks of life to work in partnership to build houses with individuals and families in need. It offers partner families an opportunity to help themselves, to own a decent, affordable home of their own, which they pay for and maintain.

Partner families invest hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” into building their homes and the homes of others. The houses are sold at no profit and with no interest charged. Mortgage payments are placed in a revolving fund and used by Habitat for Humanity to finance additional houses.

Individual donors, churches and corporate sponsors provide the funding and materials to build Habitat houses. Volunteers provide the labor.

Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County is one of more than 50 affiliates and campus chapters in the state of Missouri.

Mulberry St. in Maryville, now belongs to the Hilary Steinman family. Steinman took ownership of a 1,340-square-foot home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, constructed in partnership with the building trades program at the Northwest Technical School in Maryville. Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County announces 15th partner family

Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County has announced its partnership with Hilary Steinman to take ownership of its next home this year in Maryville. Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County’s Executive Board surprised Steinman with the news on Jan. 10 at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where she has been employed as a custodian for the last six years.   Hilary Steinman is pictured in the center with Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County board members. Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County receives funding from local charitable trust, United Way

  Board members representing Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County today joined representatives of United Way of Nodaway County , which presented Habitat with an allocation of $5,000 to support its future partnerships and home construction.  In addition, Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County was awarded $25,000 this week from the Gladys M. Rickard Charitable Trust, a private foundation in Maryville that focuses on funding projects that benefit the Nodaway County community.
